Independance Day

We started our 4th of July by taking the boys to their first parade. (We wore the new shirts we painted.) I'd never been to the one in our town either so it was a first for me too. One of my sisters spent the entire long weekend with us so the four of us went. It was a morning parade and we got there early to make sure we got a good spot. We had no idea how many people would be there & how bad parking would be. We didn't need to worry. We picked a spot around the circle where a band was playing. To bad we didn't pick a shady spot..... The parade was fun but we were a little disappointed that there were no marching bands, cheerleaders, etc. I don't know if it's because it's not during the school year but we thought it a little strange. The parade was small and very small town. Anyone who wants to be in it can be so there were very few actual floats and lots of people & kids riding bikes, walking with dogs, or riding decorated golf carts & things. Some did throw candy and one group even threw beaded necklaces. Alex had a meltdown at the very beginning when he didn't get candy on the first try. He finally got the hang of it. Zachary was funny. He stood kinda bent over with his hands on his legs like he was ready to run when candy hit the ground! They got enough - not too much.

Waiting for the parade to start.

Let the parade begin!

Showing off their catch!
Afterward some friends came over to swim and grill up some steaks for dinner. Of course the only time I got my camera out was to take a picture of dessert - Red, White, & Blueberry Trifle. Oopsie!
Happy Birthday USA!
